This painting shows the cable car turntable at the corner of Market and Powell streets on a rainy day in 1945. The line ran from the corner of Market and Powell to the Hyde Street terminus at the Hyde Street Pier.
At this time the passengers would often help the cable car operators turn the cable cars or would stay on the cars as they were turned.
The historic information regarding the cable cars comes largely from Emilliano Echeverria, the most knowledgeable man there is on the history of cable cars in San Francisco.
